he said to the gardener, ‘For three years now I have come in search of fruit on this fig tree but have found none. [So] cut it down. Why should it exhaust the soil?’

Let me alone, then, that my anger may burn against them to consume them. Then I will make of you a great nation.

By decree of the watchers is this proclamation, by order of the holy ones, this sentence; That all who live may know that the Most High is sovereign over human kingship, Giving it to whom he wills, and setting it over the lowliest of mortals.’

When you come into the land and plant any fruit tree there, first look upon its fruit as if it were uncircumcised. For three years, it shall be uncircumcised for you; it may not be eaten.

I will command such a blessing for you in the sixth year that there will be crop enough for three years,

Every tree that does not bear good fruit will be cut down and thrown into the fire.

He said to him in reply, ‘Sir, leave it for this year also, and I shall cultivate the ground around it and fertilize it;

Even now the ax lies at the root of the trees. Therefore every tree that does not produce good fruit will be cut down and thrown into the fire.”

He takes away every branch in me that does not bear fruit, and every one that does he prunes so that it bears more fruit.

Anyone who does not remain in me will be thrown out like a branch and wither; people will gather them and throw them into a fire and they will be burned.
