The Lord said to Moses on Mount Sinai:
We will not marry our daughters to the local inhabitants, and we will not accept their daughters for our sons.
In the third month after the Israelites’ departure from the land of Egypt, on the first day, they came to the wilderness of Sinai.
For six years you may sow your land and gather in its produce.
When Moses told this to the Israelites, they took the blasphemer outside the camp and stoned him; they did just as the Lord commanded Moses.
Speak to the Israelites and tell them: When you enter the land that I am giving you, let the land, too, keep a sabbath for the Lord.
In the second year after the Israelites’ departure from the land of Egypt, on the first day of the second month, the Lord said to Moses at the tent of meeting in the wilderness of Sinai:
