The clans of the Merarites obtained twelve cities by lot from the tribes of Reuben, Gad, and Zebulun.

the king of Kedesh, one; the king of Jokneam, at Carmel, one;
Their boundary went up west and through Mareal, reaching Dabbesheth and the wadi that is near Jokneam.
Thus, with Kattath, Nahalal, Shimron, Idalah, and Bethlehem, there were twelve cities and their villages.
