Fear of others becomes a snare, but the one who trusts in the Lord is safe.

After this, Joseph of Arimathea, secretly a disciple of Jesus for fear of the Jews, asked Pilate if he could remove the body of Jesus. And Pilate permitted it. So he came and took his body.

On the evening of that first day of the week, when the doors were locked, where the disciples were, for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood in their midst and said to them, “Peace be with you.”

He came to Jesus at night and said to him, “Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher who has come from God, for no one can do these signs that you are doing unless God is with him.”

After this, Jesus moved about within Galilee; but he did not wish to travel in Judea, because the Jews were trying to kill him.

The Jews were looking for him at the feast and saying, “Where is he?”

The Jews were amazed and said, “How does he know scripture without having studied?”

His parents said this because they were afraid of the Jews, for the Jews had already agreed that if anyone acknowledged him as the Messiah, he would be expelled from the synagogue.

They answered and said to him, “You were born totally in sin, and are you trying to teach us?” Then they threw him out.

“I know that you live where Satan’s throne is, and yet you hold fast to my name and have not denied your faith in me, not even in the days of Antipas, my faithful witness, who was martyred among you, where Satan lives.
