A woman of Samaria came to draw water. Jesus said to her, “Give me a drink.”

the servant ran toward her and said, “Please give me a sip of water from your jug.”

While I stand here at the spring, if I say to a young woman who comes out to draw water, ‘Please give me a little water from your jug,’

He arose and went to Zarephath. When he arrived at the entrance of the city, a widow was there gathering sticks; he called out to her, “Please bring me a small cupful of water to drink.”

And whoever gives only a cup of cold water to one of these little ones to drink because he is a disciple—amen, I say to you, he will surely not lose his reward.”

After this, aware that everything was now finished, in order that the scripture might be fulfilled, Jesus said, “I thirst.”

Jesus answered and said to her, “If you knew the gift of God and who is saying to you, ‘Give me a drink,’ you would have asked him and he would have given you living water.”

Jacob’s well was there. Jesus, tired from his journey, sat down there at the well. It was about noon.

His disciples had gone into the town to buy food.
