Now a man was ill, Lazarus from Bethany, the village of Mary and her sister Martha.

Some time afterward, Joseph was informed, “Your father is failing.” So he took along with him his two sons, Manasseh and Ephraim.

And leaving them, he went out of the city to Bethany, and there he spent the night. The Cursing of the Fig Tree.

When they drew near to Jerusalem, to Bethphage and Bethany at the Mount of Olives, he sent two of his disciples

He said this, and then told them, “Our friend Lazarus is asleep, but I am going to awaken him.”

Now Bethany was near Jerusalem, only about two miles away.

And many of the Jews had come to Martha and Mary to comfort them about their brother.

So the sisters sent word to him, saying, “Master, the one you love is ill.”

So the crowd that was with him when he called Lazarus from the tomb and raised him from death continued to testify.

[The] large crowd of the Jews found out that he was there and came, not only because of Jesus, but also to see Lazarus, whom he had raised from the dead.

Now during those days she fell sick and died, so after washing her, they laid [her] out in a room upstairs.
