Daughter Dibon has gone up to the high places to weep; Over Nebo and over Medeba Moab is wailing. Every head is shaved, every beard sheared off.

My heart cries out for Moab, his fugitives reach Zoar, Eglath-shelishiyah: The ascent of Luhith they ascend weeping; On the way to Horonaim they utter rending cries;

The cry has gone round the territory of Moab; As far as Eglaim his wailing, even at Beer-elim his wailing.

That is why I say: Turn away from me, let me weep bitterly; Do not try to comfort me for the ruin of the daughter of my people.

Let that man be like the cities which the Lord relentlessly overthrew; Let him hear war cries in the morning, battle alarms at noonday,

Thus says the Lord: See: waters are rising from the north, to become a torrent in flood; They shall flood the land and all it contains, the cities and their inhabitants. People will howl and wail, every inhabitant of the land.

The cry of Heshbon and Elealeh is heard as far as Jahaz; they call from Zoar to Horonaim and to Eglath-shelishiyah; even the waters of Nimrim turn into a wasteland.

“Moab is crushed!” their outcry is heard in Zoar.

Up the ascent of Luhith they go weeping; At the descent to Horonaim they hear cries of anguish:

A sound of crying from Babylon, great destruction from the land of the Chaldeans;
