The king said to Abiathar the priest: “Go to your estate in Anathoth. Though you deserve to die, I will not put you to death at this time, because you carried the ark of the Lord God before David my father and shared in all the hardships my father endured.”

Therefore, thus says the Lord concerning the men of Anathoth who seek your life and say, “Do not prophesy in the name of the Lord; otherwise you shall die by our hand.”

Why, then, have you not rebuked Jeremiah of Anathoth who poses as a prophet among you?

This word came to Jeremiah from the Lord:

Jeremiah set out from Jerusalem to go to the territory of Benjamin, to receive his share of property among the people.
