My soul clings to the dust; give me life in accord with your word.

It was good for me to be afflicted, in order to learn your statutes.

I know, Lord, that your judgments are righteous; though you afflict me, you are faithful.

O Lord, my God, I cried out to you for help and you healed me.

Listen to my prayer, Lord, hear my cry; do not be deaf to my weeping! For I am with you like a foreigner, a refugee, like my ancestors.

Whatever bitter afflictions you sent me, you would turn and revive me. From the watery depths of the earth once more raise me up.

We have all become like something unclean, all our just deeds are like polluted rags; We have all withered like leaves, and our crimes carry us away like the wind.

He said in reply, “It is written: ‘One does not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes forth from the mouth of God.’”

but since we are judged by [the] Lord, we are being disciplined so that we may not be condemned along with the world.

For this momentary light affliction is producing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison,

He therefore let you be afflicted with hunger, and then fed you with manna, a food unknown to you and your ancestors, so you might know that it is not by bread alone that people live, but by all that comes forth from the mouth of the Lord.

Besides this, we have had our earthly fathers to discipline us, and we respected them. Should we not [then] submit all the more to the Father of spirits and live?
