When the Lord saw how great the wickedness of human beings was on earth, and how every desire that their heart conceived was always nothing but evil,

When the Lord smelled the sweet odor, the Lord said to himself: Never again will I curse the ground because of human beings, since the desires of the human heart are evil from youth; nor will I ever again strike down every living being, as I have done.

I came and I chastised them; Peoples will be gathered against them when I bind them to their two crimes.

The high places of Aven will be destroyed, the sin of Israel; thorns and thistles will overgrow their altars. Then they will cry out to the mountains, “Cover us!” and to the hills, “Fall upon us!”

Blow the ram’s horn in Gibeah, the trumpet in Ramah! Sound the alarm in Beth-aven: “Look behind you, Benjamin!”

They have sunk to the depths of corruption, as in the days of Gibeah; God will remember their iniquity and punish their sins.

The lords of Gibeah rose up against me and surrounded me in the house at night. I was the one they intended to kill, but they abused my concubine and she died.
