There was famine in the land; so Abram went down to Egypt to sojourn there, since the famine in the land was severe.

Then the Lord said to Abram: Know for certain that your descendants will reside as aliens in a land not their own, where they shall be enslaved and oppressed for four hundred years.

Now the famine in the land grew severe.

You can settle in the region of Goshen, where you will be near me—you and your children and children’s children, your flocks and herds, and everything that you own.
