Genesis 46:1

Israel set out with all that was his. When he arrived at Beer-sheba, he offered sacrifices to the God of his father Isaac.

If the God of my father, the God of Abraham and the Fear of Isaac, had not been on my side, you would now have sent me away empty-handed. But God saw my plight and the fruits of my toil, and last night he reproached you.”

And there was the Lord standing beside him and saying: I am the Lord, the God of Abraham your father and the God of Isaac; the land on which you are lying I will give to you and your descendants.

Jacob departed from Beer-sheba and proceeded toward Haran.

Abraham planted a tamarisk at Beer-sheba, and there he invoked by name the Lord, God the Eternal.

This is why the place is called Beer-sheba; the two of them took an oath there.

And when each feast had run its course, Job would send for them and sanctify them, rising early and offering sacrifices for every one of them. Thus all Israel from Dan to Beer-sheba came to know that Samuel was a trustworthy prophet of the Lord.

There he built an altar and called the place El-Bethel, for it was there that God had revealed himself to him when he was fleeing from his brother.

Let us now go up to Bethel so that I might build an altar there to the God who answered me in the day of my distress and who has been with me wherever I have gone.”

He set up an altar there and invoked “El, the God of Israel.”

May the God of Abraham and the God of Nahor, the God of their father, judge between us!” Jacob took the oath by the Fear of his father Isaac.

Abraham looked up and saw a single ram caught by its horns in the thicket. So Abraham went and took the ram and offered it up as a burnt offering in place of his son.

From there he moved on to the hill country east of Bethel, pitching his tent with Bethel to the west and Ai to the east. He built an altar there to the Lord and invoked the Lord by name.

Then Noah built an altar to the Lord, and choosing from every clean animal and every clean bird, he offered burnt offerings on the altar.

while Abel, for his part, brought the fatty portion of the firstlings of his flock. The Lord looked with favor on Abel and his offering,

and Jacob went down to Egypt. And he and our ancestors died

“Enough,” said Israel. “My son Joseph is still alive! I must go and see him before I die.”

The high places of Isaac shall be laid waste, and the sanctuaries of Israel made desolate; and I will attack the house of Jeroboam with the sword.

To Isaac I gave Jacob and Esau. To Esau I assigned the mountain region of Seir to possess, while Jacob and his children went down to Egypt.

His firstborn was named Joel, his second son, Abijah; they judged at Beer-sheba.
