So ten of Joseph’s brothers went down to buy grain from Egypt.

So when they had used up all the grain they had brought from Egypt, their father said to them, “Go back and buy us a little more food.”

If you are willing to let our brother go with us, we will go down to buy food for you.

Then Judah urged his father Israel: “Let the boy go with me, that we may be off and on our way if you and we and our children are to keep from starving to death.

“Hurry back, then, to my father and tell him: ‘Thus says your son Joseph: God has made me lord of all Egypt; come down to me without delay.

I shall not die but live and declare the deeds of the Lord.

Behold, the eye of the Lord is upon those who fear him, upon those who count on his mercy,

To deliver their soul from death, and to keep them alive through famine.

In those days, when Hezekiah was mortally ill, the prophet Isaiah, son of Amoz, came and said to him: “Thus says the Lord: Put your house in order, for you are about to die; you shall not recover.”

He said in reply, “It is written: ‘One does not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes forth from the mouth of God.’”

but when Jacob heard that there was grain in Egypt, he sent our ancestors there a first time.
