Then the Lord said to Jacob: Return to the land of your ancestors, where you were born, and I will be with you.

At that time Abimelech, accompanied by Phicol, the commander of his army, said to Abraham: “God is with you in everything you do.

The same night the Lord appeared to him and said: I am the God of Abraham, your father. Do not fear, for I am with you. I will bless you and multiply your descendants for the sake of Abraham, my servant.

And there was the Lord standing beside him and saying: I am the Lord, the God of Abraham your father and the God of Isaac; the land on which you are lying I will give to you and your descendants.

I am with you and will protect you wherever you go, and bring you back to this land. I will never leave you until I have done what I promised you.

May God extend to you and your descendants the blessing of Abraham, so that you may gain possession of the land where you are residing, which he assigned to Abraham.”

After Rachel gave birth to Joseph, Jacob said to Laban: “Allow me to go to my own region and land.

I am the God of Bethel, where you anointed a sacred pillar and made a vow to me. Get up now! Leave this land and return to the land of your birth.’”

and he drove off all his livestock and all the property he had acquired in Paddan-aram, to go to his father Isaac in the land of Canaan.

Jacob perceived, too, that Laban’s attitude toward him was not what it had previously been.

So Jacob sent for Rachel and Leah to meet him in the field where his flock was.

Then Jacob prayed: “God of my father Abraham and God of my father Isaac! You, Lord, who said to me, ‘Go back to your land and your relatives, and I will be good to you.’

ordering them: “Thus you shall say to my lord Esau: ‘Thus says your servant Jacob: I have been residing with Laban and have been delayed until now.

“If Esau should come and attack one camp,” he reasoned, “the remaining camp may still escape.”

God said to Jacob: Go up now to Bethel. Settle there and build an altar there to the God who appeared to you when you were fleeing from your brother Esau.

Let us now go up to Bethel so that I might build an altar there to the God who answered me in the day of my distress and who has been with me wherever I have gone.”

Joseph said to his brothers: “I am about to die. God will surely take care of you and lead you up from this land to the land that he promised on oath to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.”

Then call on me on the day of distress; I will rescue you, and you shall honor me.”

Make us glad as many days as you humbled us, for as many years as we have seen trouble.

God answered: I will be with you; and this will be your sign that I have sent you. When you have brought the people out of Egypt, you will serve God at this mountain.

Do not fear: I am with you; do not be anxious: I am your God. I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my victorious right hand.

Let your life be free from love of money but be content with what you have, for he has said, “I will never forsake you or abandon you.”
