so she demanded of Abraham: “Drive out that slave and her son! No son of that slave is going to share the inheritance with my son Isaac!”

God replied: Even so, your wife Sarah is to bear you a son, and you shall call him Isaac. It is with him that I will maintain my covenant as an everlasting covenant and with his descendants after him.

A slave does not remain in a household forever, but a son always remains.

For if the inheritance comes from the law, it is no longer from a promise; but God bestowed it on Abraham through a promise.

So you are no longer a slave but a child, and if a child then also an heir, through God. Do Not Throw This Freedom Away.

to an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you

They went out from us, but they were not really of our number; if they had been, they would have remained with us. Their desertion shows that none of them was of our number.
