God looked at everything he had made, and found it very good. Evening came, and morning followed—the sixth day.

God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it he rested from all the work he had done in creation. The Garden of Eden.

For six days you may do your work, but on the seventh day you must rest, that your ox and your donkey may have rest, and that the son of your maidservant and the resident alien may be refreshed.

Six days there are for doing work, but the seventh day is the sabbath of complete rest, holy to the Lord. Anyone who does work on the sabbath day shall be put to death.

Between me and the Israelites it is to be an everlasting sign; for in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, but on the seventh day he rested at his ease.

If you refrain from trampling the sabbath, from following your own pursuits on my holy day; If you call the sabbath a delight, the Lord’s holy day glorious; If you glorify it by not following your ways, seeking your own interests, or pursuing your own affairs—

But Jesus answered them, “My Father is at work until now, so I am at work.”

but the seventh day is a sabbath of the Lord your God. You shall not do any work, either you, your son or your daughter, your male or female slave, your ox or donkey or any work animal, or the resident alien within your gates, so that your male and female slave may rest as you do.

And whoever enters into God’s rest, rests from his own works as God did from his.

For he has spoken somewhere about the seventh day in this manner, “And God rested on the seventh day from all his works”;
