Genesis 15:2

But Abram said, “Lord God, what can you give me, if I die childless and have only a servant of my household, Eliezer of Damascus?”

He and his servants deployed against them at night, defeated them, and pursued them as far as Hobah, which is north of Damascus.

Some time afterward, the word of the Lord came to Abram in a vision: Do not fear, Abram! I am your shield; I will make your reward very great.

Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but a wish fulfilled is a tree of life.

A wise servant will rule over an unworthy son, and will share the inheritance of the children.

Oracle on Damascus: See, Damascus shall cease to be a city and become a pile of ruins;

I will give them, in my house and within my walls, a monument and a name Better than sons and daughters; an eternal name, which shall not be cut off, will I give them.

Concerning Damascus. Hamath and Arpad are shamed, for they have heard bad news; Anxious, they surge like the sea which cannot calm down.

Yet he gave him no inheritance in it, not even a foot’s length, but he did promise to give it to him and his descendants as a possession, even though he was childless.
