Had I looked upon the light as it shone, or the moon in the splendor of its progress,

While the morning stars sang together and all the sons of God shouted for joy?

Praise him, sun and moon; praise him, all shining stars.

Let them all praise the Lord’s name; for he commanded and they were created,

it comes forth like a bridegroom from his canopy, and like a hero joyfully runs its course.

Yours the day and yours the night too; you set the moon and sun in place.

The stars of the heavens and their constellations will send forth no light; The sun will be dark at its rising, and the moon will not give its light.

I form the light, and create the darkness, I make weal and create woe; I, the Lord, do all these things.

Thus says the Lord, Who gives the sun to light the day, moon and stars to light the night; Who stirs up the sea so that its waves roar, whose name is Lord of hosts:

the moon left its lofty station, At the light of your flying arrows, at the gleam of your flashing spear.

“Immediately after the tribulation of those days, the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light, and the stars will fall from the sky, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken.

From noon onward, darkness came over the whole land until three in the afternoon.

The brightness of the sun is one kind, the brightness of the moon another, and the brightness of the stars another. For star differs from star in brightness.

And when you look up to the heavens and behold the sun or the moon or the stars, the whole heavenly host, do not be led astray into bowing down to them and serving them. These the Lord, your God, has apportioned to all the other nations under the heavens;

The city had no need of sun or moon to shine on it, for the glory of God gave it light, and its lamp was the Lamb.
