Evening came, and morning followed—the third day.

and serve as lights in the dome of the sky, to illuminate the earth. And so it happened:

All the days of the earth, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, Summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease.

I set my bow in the clouds to serve as a sign of the covenant between me and the earth.

Is there any numbering of his troops? Yet on which of them does his light not rise?

Even the moon is not bright and the stars are not clean in his eyes.

May the stars of its twilight be darkened; may it look for daylight, but have none, nor gaze on the eyes of the dawn,

By your judgments they stand firm to this day, for all things are your servants.

Praise him, sun and moon; praise him, all shining stars.

Assigned them their station forever, set an order that will never change.

Hallelujah! Praise God in his holy sanctuary; give praise in the mighty dome of heaven.

Take up a melody, sound the timbrel, the pleasant lyre with a harp.

Lift up your eyes on high and see who created these: He leads out their army and numbers them, calling them all by name. By his great might and the strength of his power not one of them is missing!

Thus says the Lord: Do not learn the ways of the nations, and have no fear of the signs in the heavens, even though the nations fear them.

Thus says the Lord, Who gives the sun to light the day, moon and stars to light the night; Who stirs up the sea so that its waves roar, whose name is Lord of hosts:

Thus says the Lord: If you can break my covenant with day and my covenant with night so that day and night no longer appear in their proper time,

Thus says the Lord: If I have no covenant with day and night, if I did not establish statutes for heaven and earth,

Thus says the Lord God: The gate of the inner court facing east shall remain closed throughout the six working days, but on the sabbath and on the day of the new moon it shall be open.

On the day of the new moon, he shall provide an unblemished young bull, six lambs, and a ram without blemish,

Before them the earth trembles; the heavens shake; Sun and moon are darkened, and the stars withhold their brightness.

The one who made the Pleiades and Orion, who turns darkness into dawn, and darkens day into night; Who summons the waters of the sea, and pours them out on the surface of the earth;

On that day—oracle of the Lord God— I will make the sun set at midday and in broad daylight cover the land with darkness.

saying, “Where is the newborn king of the Jews? We saw his star at its rising and have come to do him homage.”

“Immediately after the tribulation of those days, the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light, and the stars will fall from the sky, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken.

“But in those days after that tribulation the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light,

because of an eclipse of the sun. Then the veil of the temple was torn down the middle.

And when you look up to the heavens and behold the sun or the moon or the stars, the whole heavenly host, do not be led astray into bowing down to them and serving them. These the Lord, your God, has apportioned to all the other nations under the heavens;

Then I watched while he broke open the sixth seal, and there was a great earthquake; the sun turned as black as dark sackcloth and the whole moon became like blood.

When the fourth angel blew his trumpet, a third of the sun, a third of the moon, and a third of the stars were struck, so that a third of them became dark. The day lost its light for a third of the time, as did the night.

It opened the passage to the abyss, and smoke came up out of the passage like smoke from a huge furnace. The sun and the air were darkened by the smoke from the passage.
