While Israel was encamped in that region, Reuben went and lay with Bilhah, his father’s concubine. When Israel heard of it, he was greatly offended. The sons of Jacob were now twelve.

Turbulent as water, you shall no longer excel, for you climbed into your father’s bed and defiled my couch to my sorrow.

In you are those who uncover the nakedness of their fathers; in you those who coerce women to intercourse during their period.

You shall not disgrace your father by having intercourse with your mother. She is your own mother; you shall not have intercourse with her.

You shall not have intercourse with your father’s wife, for that would be a disgrace to your father.

If a man disgraces his father by lying with his father’s wife, the two of them shall be put to death; their bloodguilt is upon them.

They trample the heads of the destitute into the dust of the earth, and force the lowly out of the way. Son and father sleep with the same girl, profaning my holy name.

It is widely reported that there is immorality among you, and immorality of a kind not found even among pagans—a man living with his father’s wife.

A man shall not marry his father’s wife, nor shall he dishonor his father’s bed. Membership in the Assembly.
