But the Lord stood by me and gave me strength, so that through me the proclamation might be completed and all the Gentiles might hear it. And I was rescued from the lion’s mouth.

Because of this, I always strive to keep my conscience clear before God and man.

in their every affliction. It was not an envoy or a messenger, but his presence that saved them. Because of his love and pity the Lord redeemed them, Lifting them up and carrying them all the days of old.

Happy the just, for it will go well with them, the fruit of their works they will eat.

You are my God, I give you thanks; my God, I offer you praise.

Repaying me evil for good, accusing me for pursuing good.

This poor one cried out and the Lord heard, and from all his distress he saved him.

Then the Lord sent an angel, who destroyed every warrior, leader, and commander in the camp of the Assyrian king, so that he had to return shamefaced to his own country. And when he entered the temple of his god, some of his own offspring struck him down there with the sword.

the king rose very early the next morning and hastened to the lions’ den.

In my distress I called out: Lord! I cried out to my God; From his temple he heard my voice, my cry reached his ears.

He continued: “Why does my lord pursue his servant? What have I done? What evil am I planning?

The truth is that I was kidnapped from the land of the Hebrews, and I have not done anything here that they should have put me into a dungeon.”

Are they not all ministering spirits sent to serve, for the sake of those who are to inherit salvation?

Jeremiah then asked King Zedekiah: “How have I wronged you or your officials or this people, that you should put me in prison?

Daniel outshone all the ministers and satraps because an extraordinary spirit was in him, and the king considered setting him over the entire kingdom.

He went off and found the body sprawled on the road with the donkey and the lion standing beside it. The lion had not eaten the body nor had it harmed the donkey.

So these ministers and satraps stormed in to the king and said to him, “King Darius, live forever!
