But some from the party of the Pharisees who had become believers stood up and said, “It is necessary to circumcise them and direct them to observe the Mosaic law.”

When he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming to his baptism, he said to them, “You brood of vipers! Who warned you to flee from the coming wrath?

Some who had come down from Judea were instructing the brothers, “Unless you are circumcised according to the Mosaic practice, you cannot be saved.”

Since we have heard that some of our number [who went out] without any mandate from us have upset you with their teachings and disturbed your peace of mind,

They praised God when they heard it but said to him, “Brother, you see how many thousands of believers there are from among the Jews, and they are all zealous observers of the law.

But this I do admit to you, that according to the Way, which they call a sect, I worship the God of our ancestors and I believe everything that is in accordance with the law and written in the prophets.

We found this man to be a pest; he creates dissension among Jews all over the world and is a ringleader of the sect of the Nazoreans.

But we should like to hear you present your views, for we know that this sect is denounced everywhere.”

Then the high priest rose up and all his companions, that is, the party of the Sadducees, and, filled with jealousy,

Was someone called after he had been circumcised? He should not try to undo his circumcision. Was an uncircumcised person called? He should not be circumcised.

And when Cephas came to Antioch, I opposed him to his face because he clearly was wrong.

But when I saw that they were not on the right road in line with the truth of the gospel, I said to Cephas in front of all, “If you, though a Jew, are living like a Gentile and not like a Jew, how can you compel the Gentiles to live like Jews?” Faith and Works.
