Why, then, are you now putting God to the test by placing on the shoulders of the disciples a yoke that neither our ancestors nor we have been able to bear?

and so they quarreled with Moses and said, “Give us water to drink.” Moses replied to them, “Why do you quarrel with me? Why do you put the Lord to a test?”

But Ahaz answered, “I will not ask! I will not tempt the Lord!”

They tie up heavy burdens [hard to carry] and lay them on people’s shoulders, but they will not lift a finger to move them.

Jesus answered him, “Again it is written, ‘You shall not put the Lord, your God, to the test.’”

Then Peter said to her, “Why did you agree to test the Spirit of the Lord? Listen, the footsteps of those who have buried your husband are at the door, and they will carry you out.”

but now that you have come to know God, or rather to be known by God, how can you turn back again to the weak and destitute elemental powers? Do you want to be slaves to them all over again?

For freedom Christ set us free; so stand firm and do not submit again to the yoke of slavery.

where your ancestors tested and tried me and saw my works

This is a symbol of the present time, in which gifts and sacrifices are offered that cannot perfect the worshiper in conscience
