I will be a father to him, and he shall be a son to me. If he does wrong, I will reprove him with a human rod and with human punishments;

But Samuel said to Saul, “I will not return with you, because you rejected the word of the Lord and the Lord has rejected you as king of Israel.”

So Samuel said to him: “The Lord has torn the kingdom of Israel from you this day, and has given it to a neighbor of yours, who is better than you.

The spirit of the Lord had departed from Saul, and he was tormented by an evil spirit from the Lord.

Then he, too, stripped himself of his garments and remained in a prophetic state in the presence of Samuel; all that day and night he lay naked. That is why they say, “Is Saul also among the prophets?”
