When Abner returned to Hebron, Joab took him aside within the city gate to speak with him privately. There he stabbed him in the abdomen, and he died for the blood of Asahel, Joab’s brother.

Absalom then said, “If not you, then please let my brother Amnon come with us.” The king asked him, “Why should he go with you?”

You are my brothers, you are my bone and flesh. Why should you be last to restore the king?’

The avenger of blood is the one who will kill the murderer, putting the individual to death on sight.
