but Abishai, son of Zeruiah, came to help him, and struck and killed the Philistine. Then David’s men swore to him, “You must not go out to battle with us again, lest you quench the lamp of Israel.”

I will give his son one tribe, that David my servant may always have a holding before me in Jerusalem, the city I have chosen, to set my name there.

While he kept his lamp shining above my head, and by his light I walked through darkness;

Light shines through the darkness for the upright; gracious, compassionate, and righteous.

For humble people you save; haughty eyes you bring low.

Of David. The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom should I fear? The Lord is my life’s refuge; of whom should I be afraid?

Offer fitting sacrifices and trust in the Lord.

I came into the world as light, so that everyone who believes in me might not remain in darkness.

Jesus spoke to them again, saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”

The city had no need of sun or moon to shine on it, for the glory of God gave it light, and its lamp was the Lamb.
