When David was informed of what Rizpah, Aiah’s daughter, the concubine of Saul, had done,

Now Saul had had a concubine, Rizpah, the daughter of Aiah. And Ishbaal, son of Saul, said to Abner, “Why have you slept with my father’s concubine?”

When Ahab heard these words, he tore his garments and put on sackcloth over his bare flesh. He fasted, slept in the sackcloth, and went about subdued.

Among the idols of the nations are there any that give rain? Or can the mere heavens send showers? Is it not you, Lord, our God, to whom we look? You alone do all these things.

Upon the mountains of Israel you shall fall, you and all your troops and the peoples with you. I will give you as food to birds of prey of every kind and to wild beasts to be eaten.

Let us know, let us strive to know the Lord; as certain as the dawn is his coming. He will come to us like the rain, like spring rain that waters the earth.”

How the animals groan! The herds of cattle are bewildered! Because they have no pasture, even the flocks of sheep are starving.

Children of Zion, delight and rejoice in the Lord, your God! For he has faithfully given you the early rain, sending rain down on you, the early and the late rains as before.

Ask the Lord for rain in the spring season, the Lord who brings storm clouds, and heavy rains, who gives to everyone grain in the fields.

I will give the seasonal rain to your land, the early rain and the late rain, that you may have your grain, wine and oil to gather in;

lay aside her captive’s garb, and stay in your house, mourning her father and mother for a full month. After that, you may come to her, and you shall be her husband and she shall be your wife.

If a man guilty of a capital offense is put to death and you hang him on a tree,

his corpse shall not remain on the tree overnight. You must bury it the same day; anyone who is hanged is a curse of God. You shall not defile the land which the Lord, your God, is giving you as a heritage.

and said to him, “Come here to me, and I will feed your flesh to the birds of the air and the beasts of the field.”

Today the Lord shall deliver you into my hand; I will strike you down and cut off your head. This very day I will feed your dead body and the dead bodies of the Philistine army to the birds of the air and the beasts of the field; thus the whole land shall learn that Israel has a God.
