Absalom also sent to Ahithophel the Gilonite, David’s counselor, an invitation to come from his town, Giloh, for the sacrifices he was about to offer. So the conspiracy gained strength, and the people with Absalom increased in numbers. David Flees Jerusalem.

Furthermore, as I was in attendance upon your father, so will I be before you. Whom should I serve, if not his son?”

Ahithophel replied to Absalom: “Go to your father’s concubines, whom he left behind to take care of the palace. When all Israel hears how odious you have made yourself to your father, all those on your side will take courage.”

Kings on earth rise up and princes plot together against the Lord and against his anointed one:

Come, let us deal shrewdly with them to stop their increase; otherwise, in time of war they too may join our enemies to fight against us, and so leave the land.”

No wisdom, no understanding, no counsel prevail against the Lord.

Ah! You who would hide a plan too deep for the Lord! Who work in the dark, saying, “Who sees us, who knows us?”

Form a plan, it shall be thwarted; make a resolve, it shall not be carried out, for “With us is God!” Disciples of Isaiah.

When it was morning, all the chief priests and the elders of the people took counsel against Jesus to put him to death.
