For this momentary light affliction is producing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison,

because they would not come to meet you with food and water on your journey after you left Egypt, and because they hired Balaam, son of Beor, from Pethor in Aram Naharaim, to curse you.

The Lord, your God, would not listen to Balaam but turned his curse into a blessing for you, because the Lord, your God, loves you.

and to grant rest along with us to you who are undergoing afflictions, at the revelation of the Lord Jesus from heaven with his mighty angels,

They disciplined us for a short time as seemed right to them, but he does so for our benefit, in order that we may share his holiness.

and made this vow: “O Lord of hosts, if you look with pity on the hardship of your servant, if you remember me and do not forget me, if you give your handmaid a male child, I will give him to the Lord all the days of his life. No razor shall ever touch his head.”
