2 Kings 7:4

If we decide to go into the city, we shall die there, for there is famine in the city. If we remain here, we shall die too. So come, let us desert to the camp of the Arameans. If they let us live, we live; if they kill us, we die.”

We must indeed die; we are then like water that is poured out on the ground and cannot be gathered up. Yet, though God does not bring back to life, he does devise means so as not to banish anyone from him.

After this, Ben-hadad, king of Aram, mustered his whole army and laid siege to Samaria.

At twilight they left for the Arameans; but when they reached the edge of the camp, no one was there.

Then a spirit clothed Amasai, the chief of the Thirty, and he answered David: “We are yours, O David, we are with you, son of Jesse. Peace, peace to you, and peace to him who helps you; may your God be your helper!” So David received them and placed them among the leaders of his troops.

If I walk out into the field, look! those slain by the sword; If I enter the city, look! victims of famine. Both prophet and priest ply their trade in a land they do not know.

Why do we remain here? Let us assemble and flee to the fortified cities, where we will meet our doom; For the Lord our God has doomed us, he has given us poisoned water to drink, because we have sinned against the Lord.

Who knows? God may again repent and turn from his blazing wrath, so that we will not perish.”

Just as it is appointed that human beings die once, and after this the judgment,
