A certain woman, the widow of one of the guild prophets, cried out to Elisha: “My husband, your servant, is dead. You know that he revered the Lord, yet now his creditor has come to take my two children into servitude.”

“Do not lay your hand on the boy,” said the angel. “Do not do the least thing to him. For now I know that you fear God, since you did not withhold from me your son, your only one.”

Acting on the word of the Lord, one of the guild prophets said to his companion, “Strike me.” But he refused to strike him.

The guild prophets in Jericho, who were on the other side, saw him and said, “The spirit of Elijah rests on Elisha.” They went to meet him, bowing to the ground before him.

Fifty of the guild prophets followed and stood facing them at a distance, while the two of them stood next to the Jordan. Elisha Succeeds Elijah.

When Elisha returned to Gilgal, there was a famine in the land. Once, when the guild prophets were seated before him, he said to his servant, “Put the large pot on, and make some vegetable stew for the guild prophets.”

But the man of God would send word to the king of Israel, “Be careful! Do not pass by this place, for Aram will attack there.”

We will not marry our daughters to the local inhabitants, and we will not accept their daughters for our sons.

Over Jerusalem I placed Hanani, my brother, and Hananiah, the commander of the citadel, who was more trustworthy and God-fearing than most.

For as the heavens tower over the earth, so his mercy towers over those who fear him.

Thus says the Lord: Where is the bill of divorce with which I dismissed your mother? Or to which of my creditors have I sold you? It was for your sins you were sold, for your rebellions your mother was dismissed.

Every seventh year each of you must set free all Hebrews who have sold themselves to you; six years they shall serve you, but then you shall let them go free. Your ancestors, however, did not listen to me or obey me.

even after having sold themselves, they still may be redeemed by one of their kindred,

Then those who fear the Lord spoke with one another, and the Lord listened attentively; A record book was written before him of those who fear the Lord and esteem his name.

Since he had no way of paying it back, his master ordered him to be sold, along with his wife, his children, and all his property, in payment of the debt.

But he refused. Instead, he had him put in prison until he paid back the debt.

So will my heavenly Father do to you, unless each of you forgives his brother from his heart.”

“My brothers, children of the family of Abraham, and those others among you who are God-fearing, to us this word of salvation has been sent.

For the judgment is merciless to one who has not shown mercy; mercy triumphs over judgment. Faith and Works.

Who will not fear you, Lord, or glorify your name? For you alone are holy. All the nations will come and worship before you, for your righteous acts have been revealed.”

A voice coming from the throne said: “Praise our God, all you his servants, [and] you who revere him, small and great.”

Elimelech, the husband of Naomi, died, and she was left with her two sons.

He was joined by all those in difficulties or in debt, or embittered, and became their leader. About four hundred men were with him.
