Early in the morning they went out to the wilderness of Tekoa. As they were going out, Jehoshaphat halted and said: “Listen to me, Judah and inhabitants of Jerusalem! Let your faith in the Lord, your God, be firm, and you will be firm. Have faith in his prophets and you will succeed.”

Let not Hezekiah mislead you further and deceive you in any such way. Do not believe him! Since no other god of any other nation or kingdom has been able to rescue his people from my hand or the hands of my fathers, how much the less shall your god rescue you from my hand!”

Have you an arm like that of God, or can you thunder with a voice like his?

Better to take refuge in the Lord than to put one’s trust in mortals.

Now I know the Lord gives victory to his anointed. He will answer him from the holy heavens with a strong arm that brings victory.

Though nations rage and kingdoms totter, he utters his voice and the earth melts.

For it is the Lord, your God, who goes with you to fight for you against your enemies and give you victory.”

But the Lord stood by me and gave me strength, so that through me the proclamation might be completed and all the Gentiles might hear it. And I was rescued from the lion’s mouth.

The Lord be with your spirit. Grace be with all of you.

All these kings and their lands Joshua captured all at once, for the Lord, the God of Israel, fought for Israel.

You belong to God, children, and you have conquered them, for the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world.

David answered him: “You come against me with sword and spear and scimitar, but I come against you in the name of the Lord of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel whom you have insulted.
