Jacob perceived, too, that Laban’s attitude toward him was not what it had previously been.

Anger is cruel, and wrath overwhelming, but before jealousy who can stand?

Then I saw that all toil and skillful work is the rivalry of one person with another. This also is vanity and a chase after wind.

[Or] am I not free to do as I wish with my own money? Are you envious because I am generous?’

adultery, greed, malice, deceit, licentiousness, envy, blasphemy, arrogance, folly.

and do not leave room for the devil.

Do not complain, brothers, about one another, that you may not be judged. Behold, the Judge is standing before the gates.

The next day an evil spirit from God rushed upon Saul, and he raged in his house. David was in attendance, playing the harp as at other times, while Saul was holding his spear.

Saul was very angry and resentful of the song, for he thought: “They give David tens of thousands, but only thousands to me. All that remains for him is the kingship.”

Saul discussed his intention to kill David with his son Jonathan and with all his servants. But Saul’s son Jonathan, who was very fond of David,
