Each year this man went up from his city to worship and offer sacrifice to the Lord of hosts at Shiloh, where the two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas, were ministering as priests of the Lord.

He forsook the shrine at Shiloh, the tent he set up among human beings.

Three times a year you shall celebrate a pilgrim feast to me.

Three times a year shall all your men appear before the Lord God.

Three times a year all your men shall appear before the Lord, the Lord God of Israel.

Each year his parents went to Jerusalem for the feast of Passover,

Ahijah, son of Ahitub, brother of Ichabod, the son of Phinehas, son of Eli, the priest of the Lord at Shiloh, was wearing the ephod—nor did the soldiers know that Jonathan had gone.

His mother used to make a little garment for him, which she would bring him each time she went up with her husband to offer the customary sacrifice.

This is a sign for you—what happens to your two sons, Hophni and Phinehas. Both of them will die on the same day.

I announce to him that I am condemning his house once and for all, because of this crime: though he knew his sons were blaspheming God, he did not reprove them.

The ark of God was captured, and Eli’s two sons, Hophni and Phinehas, were dead. Death of Eli.

So the people sent to Shiloh and brought from there the ark of the Lord of hosts, who is enthroned upon the cherubim. The two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas, accompanied the ark of God.
