In days past, when Saul was still our king, you were the one who led Israel out in all its battles and brought it back. And the Lord said to you: You shall shepherd my people Israel; you shall be ruler over Israel.”

David said: “My son Solomon is young and inexperienced; but the house that is to be built for the Lord must be made so magnificent that it will be renowned and glorious in all lands. Therefore I will make preparations for it.” Thus before his death David laid up materials in abundance. Charge to Solomon.

However, a son will be born to you. He will be a peaceful man, and I will give him rest from all his enemies on every side. For Solomon shall be his name, and in his time I will bestow peace and tranquility on Israel.

King David then said to the whole assembly: “My son Solomon, whom alone God has chosen, is still young and inexperienced; the work, however, is great, for this palace is not meant for human beings, but for the Lord God.

The Lord will guard your coming and going both now and forever.

Before disaster the heart is haughty, but before honor is humility.

Woe to you, O land, whose king is a youth, and whose princes feast in the morning!

“Ah, Lord God!” I said, “I do not know how to speak. I am too young!”

But the Lord answered me, Do not say, “I am too young.” To whomever I send you, you shall go; whatever I command you, you shall speak.

He causes the changes of the times and seasons, establishes kings and deposes them. He gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to those who understand.

All this happened to King Nebuchadnezzar.

All who live on the earth are counted as nothing; he does as he wills with the powers of heaven and with those who live on the earth. There is no one who can stay his hand or say to him, “What have you done?”

The Most High God gave your father Nebuchadnezzar kingship, greatness, splendor, and majesty.

he was cast out from human society and his heart was made like that of a beast; he lived with wild asses, and ate grass like an ox; his body was bathed with the dew of heaven, until he learned that the Most High God is sovereign over human kingship and sets over it whom he will.

who will be their leader in battle and who will lead them out and bring them in, that the Lord’s community may not be like sheep without a shepherd.”

I am the gate. Whoever enters through me will be saved, and will come in and go out and find pasture.

he said to them, I am now one hundred and twenty years old and am no longer able to go out and come in; besides, the Lord has said to me, Do not cross this Jordan.
