Are we then annulling the law by this faith? Of course not! On the contrary, we are supporting the law.

Of course not! God must be true, though every human being is a liar, as it is written: “That you may be justified in your words, and conquer when you are judged.”

Of course not! For how else is God to judge the world?

What then? Shall we sin because we are not under the law but under grace? Of course not!

How can we who died to sin yet live in it?

Did the good, then, become death for me? Of course not! Sin, in order that it might be shown to be sin, worked death in me through the good, so that sin might become sinful beyond measure through the commandment.

What then can we say? That the law is sin? Of course not! Yet I did not know sin except through the law, and I did not know what it is to covet except that the law said, “You shall not covet.”

Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ? Shall I then take Christ’s members and make them the members of a prostitute? Of course not!

But may I never boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, through which the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world.

Far be it from us to rebel against the Lord or to turn now from following the Lord by building an altar for burnt offering, grain offering, or sacrifice in addition to the altar of the Lord, our God, which stands before his tabernacle.”

But the people answered, “Far be it from us to forsake the Lord to serve other gods.

As for me, far be it from me to sin against the Lord by ceasing to pray for you and to teach you the good and right way.

Afterward, however, David regretted that he had cut off an end of Saul’s robe.
