When he was about to enter Egypt, he said to his wife Sarai: “I know that you are a beautiful woman.

So they sought for a beautiful girl throughout the territory of Israel, and found Abishag the Shunamite. So they brought her to the king.

Adonijah, son of Haggith, boasted, “I shall be king!” and he provided himself with chariots, horses, and a retinue of fifty to go before him.

He said, “Please ask King Solomon, who will not refuse you, to give me Abishag the Shunamite to be my wife.”

So she said, “Let Abishag the Shunamite be given to your brother Adonijah to be his wife.”

He had no relations with her until she bore a son, and he named him Jesus.
