I should like you to be free of anxieties. An unmarried man is anxious about the things of the Lord, how he may please the Lord.

Softer than butter is his speech, but war is in his heart. Smoother than oil are his words, but they are unsheathed swords.

The seed sown among thorns is the one who hears the word, but then worldly anxiety and the lure of riches choke the word and it bears no fruit.

but worldly anxiety, the lure of riches, and the craving for other things intrude and choke the word, and it bears no fruit.

This is because he works for pay and has no concern for the sheep.

But a married man is anxious about the things of the world, how he may please his wife,

Have no anxiety at all, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, make your requests known to God.

The real widow, who is all alone, has set her hope on God and continues in supplications and prayers night and day.
