but as he said farewell he promised, “I shall come back to you again, God willing.” Then he set sail from Ephesus.

When this was concluded, Paul made up his mind to travel through Macedonia and Achaia, and then to go on to Jerusalem, saying, “After I have been there, I must visit Rome also.”

As he traveled throughout those regions, he provided many words of encouragement for them. Then he arrived in Greece,

so that I may come to you with joy by the will of God and be refreshed together with you.

If anyone is hungry, he should eat at home, so that your meetings may not result in judgment. The other matters I shall set in order when I come.

Now I should like all of you to speak in tongues, but even more to prophesy. One who prophesies is greater than one who speaks in tongues, unless he interprets, so that the church may be built up.

I shall come to you after I pass through Macedonia (for I am going to pass through Macedonia),

For I do not wish to see you now just in passing, but I hope to spend some time with you, if the Lord permits.

Yet we do speak a wisdom to those who are mature, but not a wisdom of this age, nor of the rulers of this age who are passing away.

Some have become inflated with pride, as if I were not coming to you.

I have applied these things to myself and Apollos for your benefit, brothers, so that you may learn from us not to go beyond what is written, so that none of you will be inflated with pride in favor of one person over against another.

But I call upon God as witness, on my life, that it is to spare you that I have not yet gone to Corinth.

May I not seem as one frightening you through letters.

And we shall do this, if only God permits.

Instead you should say, “If the Lord wills it, we shall live to do this or that.”
