When David was told, “Ahithophel is among the conspirators with Absalom,” he said, “O Lord, turn the counsel of Ahithophel to folly!” David and Hushai.

Now the counsel given by Ahithophel at that time was as though one sought the word of God. Such was all the counsel of Ahithophel both to David and to Absalom.

Then Absalom and all the Israelites said, “The counsel of Hushai the Archite is better than the counsel of Ahithophel.” For the Lord had commanded that Ahithophel’s good counsel should be thwarted, so that he might bring Absalom to ruin. David Told of the Plan.

When Ahithophel saw that his counsel was not acted upon, he saddled his donkey and departed, going to his home in his own city. Then, having left orders concerning his household, he hanged himself. And so he died and was buried in his father’s tomb.

He sends counselors away barefoot, makes fools of judges.

He silences the trusted adviser, takes discretion from the elders.

He takes understanding from the leaders of the land, makes them wander in a pathless desert.

Your mind will dwell on the terror: “Where is the one who counted, where the one who weighed? Where the one who counted the towers?”

I bring to nought the omens of babblers, make fools of diviners, Turn back the wise and make their knowledge foolish.

Who would believe what we have heard? To whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed?

Who would not fear you, King of the nations, for it is your due! Among all the wisest of the nations, and in all their domains, there is none like you.

The seed sown among thorns is the one who hears the word, but then worldly anxiety and the lure of riches choke the word and it bears no fruit.

Now is the time of judgment on this world; now the ruler of this world will be driven out.

Even some of the Epicurean and Stoic philosophers engaged him in discussion. Some asked, “What is this scavenger trying to say?” Others said, “He sounds like a promoter of foreign deities,” because he was preaching about ‘Jesus’ and ‘Resurrection.’

Ever since the creation of the world, his invisible attributes of eternal power and divinity have been able to be understood and perceived in what he has made. As a result, they have no excuse;

While claiming to be wise, they became fools

For it is written: “I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and the learning of the learned I will set aside.”

Consider your own calling, brothers. Not many of you were wise by human standards, not many were powerful, not many were of noble birth.

Rather, God chose the foolish of the world to shame the wise, and God chose the weak of the world to shame the strong,

and God chose the lowly and despised of the world, those who count for nothing, to reduce to nothing those who are something,

but since we are judged by [the] Lord, we are being disciplined so that we may not be condemned along with the world.

Yet we do speak a wisdom to those who are mature, but not a wisdom of this age, nor of the rulers of this age who are passing away.

and which none of the rulers of this age knew; for, if they had known it, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory.

Let no one deceive himself. If anyone among you considers himself wise in this age, let him become a fool so as to become wise.

For the wisdom of this world is foolishness in the eyes of God, for it is written: “He catches the wise in their own ruses,”

Do you not know that the holy ones will judge the world? If the world is to be judged by you, are you unqualified for the lowest law courts?

Adulterers! Do you not know that to be a lover of the world means enmity with God? Therefore, whoever wants to be a lover of the world makes himself an enemy of God.
