The LORD,the Godof their fathers,sent[word] to them againand againby His messengers,becauseHe hadcompassionon His peopleand on His dwellingplace;
"In vainI have struckyour sons;They acceptednochastening.Your swordhas devouredyour prophetsLike a destroyinglion.
"Woeto you, scribesand Pharisees,hypocrites!For you buildthe tombsof the prophetsand adornthe monumentsof the righteous,
"Soyou testifyagainst yourselves,that you are sonsof thosewho murderedthe prophets.
Lookat the nationIsrael;are not thosewho eatthe sacrificessharersin the altar?
and our hopefor you is firmly grounded,knowingthat as you are sharersof our sufferings,soalsoyou are [sharers] of our comfort.
