John'sdisciplesand the Phariseeswere fasting;and they cameand saidto Him, "Whydo John'sdisciplesand the disciplesof the Phariseesfast,but Your disciplesdo not fast?"
"But they doalltheir deedsto be noticedby men;for they broadentheir phylacteriesand lengthenthe tassels[of their garments].
"Wheneveryou fast,do not puton a gloomy faceas the hypocrites[do], for they neglecttheir appearancesothat they will be noticedby menwhen they are fasting.TrulyI sayto you, they havetheir rewardin full.
sothat your fastingwill not be noticedby men,but by your Fatherwhois in secret;and your Fatherwhosees[what is done] in secretwill rewardyou.
And Jesussaidto them, "Whilethe bridegroomis with them, the attendantsof the bridegroomcannotfast,can they? Solongas they havethe bridegroomwith them, they cannotfast.
I fasttwicea week;I pay tithesof allthat I get.'
For not knowingabout God'srighteousnessand seekingto establishtheir own,they did not subjectthemselves to the righteousnessof God.
