For he was awarethat the chief priestshad handedHim over becauseof envy.
His brotherswere jealousof him, but his fatherkeptthe saying[in mind].
Wrathis fierceand angeris a flood,But whocan standbeforejealousy?
I have seenthat everylaborand everyskillwhich is doneis [the result of] rivalrybetween a manand his neighbor.Thistoois vanityand strivingafter wind.
For he knewthat becauseof envythey had handedHim over.
But the chief priestsstirredup the crowd[to ask] him to releaseBarabbasfor them instead.
Pilateansweredthem, saying,"Do you wantme to releasefor you the Kingof the Jews?"
But when the Jewssawthe crowds, they were filledwith jealousyand [began] contradictingthe things spokenby Paul, and were blaspheming.
For we alsooncewere foolishourselves, disobedient, deceived, enslavedto variouslustsand pleasures, spending our lifein maliceand envy, hateful, hatingone another.
Ordo you thinkthat the Scripturespeaksto no purpose:"He jealouslydesiresthe SpiritwhichHe has made to dwellin us"?
not as Cain,[who] was of the eviloneand slewhis brother. And for whatreasondid he slayhim? Becausehis deedswere evil, and his brother'swere righteous.
