Oneof the scribescameand heardthem arguing,and recognizingthat He had answeredthem well,askedHim, "Whatcommandmentis the foremostof all?"
[Then] he saidto Him, "Which ones?"And Jesussaid,"YOU SHALL NOT COMMIT MURDER;YOU SHALL NOT COMMIT ADULTERY;YOU SHALL NOT STEAL;YOU SHALL NOT BEAR false WITNESS;
"Woeto you, scribesand Pharisees,hypocrites!For you tithemintand dilland cummin,and have neglectedthe weightier provisionsof the law:justiceand mercyand faithfulness;but theseare the things you shouldhave donewithoutneglectingthe others.
"Whoeverthenannulsoneof the leastof thesecommandments,and teachesothers[to do] the same,shall be calledleastin the kingdomof heaven;but whoeverkeepsand teaches[them], he shall be calledgreatin the kingdomof heaven.
When they came[back] to the disciples,they sawa largecrowdaroundthem, and [some] scribesarguingwith them.
"But woeto you Pharisees!For you pay titheof mintand rueand every[kind of] garden herb,and [yet] disregardjusticeand the loveof God;but these are the thingsyou shouldhave donewithoutneglectingthe others.
Someof the scribesansweredand said,"Teacher,You have spokenwell."
