As He was settingout on a journey,a manranup to Him and knelt beforeHim, and askedHim, "GoodTeacher,whatshall I doto inheriteternallife?"
And He answeredand saidto them, "Whatdid Mosescommandyou?"
Oneof the scribescameand heardthem arguing,and recognizingthat He had answeredthem well,askedHim, "Whatcommandmentis the foremostof all?"
for I sayto you, that manyprophetsand kingswishedto seethe things whichyou see,and did not see[them], and to hearthe things whichyou hear,and did not hear[them]."
And He saidto him, "Whatis writtenin the Law?Howdoes it readto you?"
A rulerquestionedHim, saying,"GoodTeacher,whatshall I doto inheriteternallife?"
But the Phariseesand the lawyersrejectedGod'spurposefor themselves,not having been baptizedby John.
They were sayingthis,testingHim, sothat they might havegrounds for accusingHim. But Jesusstoopeddownand with His fingerwroteon the ground.
For ifthe inheritanceis basedon law,it is no longerbasedon a promise;but Godhas grantedit to Abrahamby meansof a promise.
