Nowthey had beensentfrom the Pharisees.
"You blindPharisee,firstcleanthe insideof the cupand of the dish,sothat the outsideof it may becomecleanalso.
When He leftthere,the scribesand the Phariseesbeganto be veryhostileand to question Him closelyon many subjects,
Nowthe Pharisees,who were lovers of money,were listeningto allthese thingsand were scoffingat Him.
But the Phariseesand the lawyersrejectedGod'spurposefor themselves,not having been baptizedby John.
He said,"I am A VOICEOF ONE CRYINGIN THE WILDERNESS,'MAKE STRAIGHTTHE WAYOF THE LORD,'as Isaiahthe prophetsaid."
They askedhim, and saidto him, "Whythenare you baptizing,ifyou are not the Christ,norElijah,northe Prophet?"
For the Sadduceessaythat there is noresurrection,noran angel,nora spirit,but the Phariseesacknowledgethem all.
since they have knownabout me for a long time,ifthey are willingto testify,that I lived[as] a Phariseeaccordingto the strictestsectof our religion.
