They setfor themselves [sacred] pillarsand Asherimon everyhighhilland undereverygreentree,
They forsookallthe commandmentsof the LORDtheir Godand madefor themselves moltenimages,[even] twocalves,and madean Asherahand worshipedallthe hostof heavenand servedBaal.
He didrightin the sightof the LORD,according to allthat his fatherUzziahhad done;howeverhe did not enterthe templeof the LORD.But the peoplecontinuedactingcorruptly.
He will not haveregardfor the altars,the workof his hands,Norwill he lookto that whichhis fingershave made,Even the Asherimand incensestands.
O LORDour God,other mastersbesidesYou have ruledus; [But] through You alonewe confessYour name.
and have casttheir godsinto the fire,for they were not godsbut the workof men'shands,woodand stone.So they have destroyedthem.
[As for] the idol,a craftsmancastsit, A goldsmithplatesit with gold,And a silversmith[fashions] chainsof silver.
"Behold,allof them are false;Their worksare worthless,Their moltenimagesare windand emptiness.
[Who] inflameyourselves among the oaks,Undereveryluxurianttree,Who slaughterthe childrenin the ravines,Underthe cleftsof the crags?
"I will pronounceMy judgmentson them concerningalltheir wickedness,wherebythey have forsakenMe and have offeredsacrificesto othergods,and worshipedthe worksof their own hands.
"For your godsare as manyas your cities,O Judah;and as manyas the streetsof Jerusalemare the altarsyou have setup to the shamefulthing,altarsto burnincenseto Baal.
"But whereare your godsWhichyou madefor yourself? Let them arise,ifthey can saveyou In the timeof your trouble;For [according to] the numberof your citiesAre your gods,O Judah.
Is there iniquity[in] Gilead?Surelythey are worthless.In Gilgalthey sacrificebulls,Yes,their altarsare like the stoneheapsBesidethe furrowsof the field.
And nowthey sinmoreand more,And makefor themselves moltenimages,Idolsskillfullymade from their silver,Allof them the workof craftsmen.They sayof them, "Let the menwho sacrificekissthe calves!"
"Assyriawill not saveus, We will not rideon horses;Norwill we sayagain,Our god,'To the workof our hands;For in You the orphanfindsmercy."
For from Israelis even this!A craftsmanmadeit, so it is not God;Surelythe calfof Samariawill be brokento pieces.
"I will cutoffsorceriesfrom your hand,And you will havefortune-tellersnomore.
Nowwhile Paulwas waitingfor them at Athens,his spiritwas being provokedwithinhim as he was observingthe cityfull of idols.
"Thereyou will servegods,the workof man'shands,woodand stone,whichneitherseenorhearnoreatnorsmell.
The restof mankind,whowere not killedby theseplagues,did not repentof the worksof their hands,soas not to worshipdemons,and the idolsof goldand of silverand of brassand of stoneand of wood,whichcanneitherseenorhearnorwalk;
