Reubenfurther saidto them, "Shednoblood.Throwhim into thispitthat is in the wilderness,but do not layhandson him"-- that he might rescuehim out of their hands,to restorehim to his father.
He said,"Do not stretchout your handagainstthe lad,and donothingto him; for nowI knowthat you fearGod,since you have not withheldyour son,your onlyson, from Me."
But Reubenheard[this] and rescuedhim out of their handsand said,"Let us not takehis life."
So it cameabout, whenJosephreachedhis brothers,that they strippedJosephof his tunic,the varicoloredtunicthat was on him;
Reubenansweredthem, saying,"Did I not tellyou, 'Do not sinagainst the boy;and you would not listen?Nowcomesthe reckoningfor his blood."
Yet He did not stretchout His handagainstthe noblesof the sonsof Israel;and they sawGod,and they ateand drank.
Even thoughElnathanand Delaiahand Gemariahpleadedwith the kingnot to burnthe scroll,he would not listento them.
When Pilatesawthat he was accomplishingnothing,but ratherthat a riotwas starting,he tookwaterand washedhis handsin frontof the crowd,saying,"I aminnocentof this Man'sblood;see[to that] yourselves."
Nowaboutthat timeHerodthe kinglaidhandson somewhobelongedto the churchin order to mistreatthem.
"But you shall surelykillhim; your handshall be firstagainst him to puthim to death,and afterwardsthe handof allthe people.
