Afterquietingthe crowd,the town clerksaid,"Menof Ephesus,whatmanis there after allwhodoes not knowthat the cityof the Ephesiansis guardian of the templeof the greatArtemisand of the [image] which fell down from heaven?
by meansof the hypocrisyof liarssearedin their ownconscienceas with a branding iron,
[remember] that you were at that timeseparatefrom Christ,excludedfrom the commonwealthof Israel,and strangersto the covenantsof promise,havingnohopeand without Godin the world.
"You seeand hearthat not onlyin Ephesus,but in almostallof Asia,thisPaulhas persuadedand turned awaya considerablenumber of people,sayingthat gods madewith handsare nogods[at all].
They cameto Ephesus,and he leftthem there.Nowhe himselfenteredthe synagogueand reasonedwith the Jews.
"We knowthat Goddoes not hearsinners;but ifanyoneis God-fearingand doesHis will,He hearshim.
But when they recognizedthat he was a Jew,a [single] outcryarosefrom them allas they shoutedfor abouttwohours,"Greatis Artemisof the Ephesians!"
"So,since theseare undeniable facts,you oughtto keep calmand to donothingrash.
