Now when SaulsawDavidgoingout againstthe Philistine,he saidto Abnerthe commanderof the army,"Abner,whosesonis thisyoungman?"And Abnersaid,"By your life,O king,I do not know."
by thisyou will be tested:by the lifeof Pharaoh,you shall not gofrom thisplace unlessyour youngestbrothercomeshere!
She said,"Oh,my lord!As your soullives,my lord,I am the womanwho stoodherebesideyou, prayingto the LORD.
The nameof Saul'swifewas Ahinoamthe daughterof Ahimaaz.And the nameof the captainof his armywas Abnerthe sonof Ner,Saul'suncle.
So he sentand broughthim in. Now he was ruddy,with beautifuleyesand a handsomeappearance.And the LORDsaid,"Arise,anointhim; for thisis he."
Then Davidtookthe Philistine'sheadand broughtit to Jerusalem,but he puthis weaponsin his tent.
The kingsaid,"You inquirewhosesonthe youthis."
Saulsaidto him, "Whosesonare you, youngman?"And Davidanswered,"[I am] the sonof your servantJessethe Bethlehemite."
Davidthen aroseand cameto the placewhereSaulhad camped.And Davidsawthe placewhereSaullay,and Abnerthe sonof Ner,the commanderof his army;and Saulwas lyingin the circleof the camp,and the peoplewere campedaroundhim.
